Duration
9 Days / 8 Nights
This comfortable journey to the North Cape passes through three different countries and showcases the diverse landscapes of the North, from the inland forests of Finnish and Swedish Lapland to the dramatic Norwegian coastline. Apart from the visit to the northernmost point of Europe, another highlight is the two days spent among the peaks and fishing villages of the Lofoten archipelago.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Rovaniemi
The tour begins in Rovaniemi, which is situated at the Arctic Circle. Rovaniemi is the home of Santa Claus, who has his own post office in Santa Claus Village. If the arrival time of the flight allows, your travellers will visit there en route to their hotel.
Day 2: Rovaniemi to Kiruna
Today the journey begins as your travellers make their way across the border to Sweden to the mining town of Kiruna. There they can take part in a guided tour through the mine that is large and important enough to move a whole city.
Day 3: Kiruna to Mortsund
From Kiruna, continue across the mountains to the Lofoten archipelago. The Lofoten are mountains and pointed peaks, open sea and protected bays and beaches. Overnight stay in the southern part of the Lofoten in a rorbu (traditional fishing cabin) hotel by the sea.
Day 4: Mortsund to Sortland
Today awaits the most beautiful part of the Lofoten. On the way to Svolvær there will be a stop in village of Henningsvær. From Svolvær the trip continues to Fiskebøl, where the travellers will take the ferry to Melbu to the neighbouring archipelago of Vesterålen.
Day 5: Sortland to Tromsø
Today the journey continues northwards along the Vesterålen, on the scenic coastal road towards Andenes. The Vesterålen archipelago north of the Lofoten is overlooked by many travellers and is rougher but also more untouched. If time and the ferry schedules allow, we recommend joining a whale watching tour in Andenes. After the ferry crossings across the two fjords Andfjorden and Malangen, the day’s journey today ends in Tromsø, the “Paris of the North”.
Day 6: Tromsø to Alta
Your travellers make their way to Alta, the biggest city in the district of Finnmark. On the way, they can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the Lyngen Alps mountains. Upon arrival in Alta, visit to the Alta Museum, which showcases world famous rock carvings, that are between two and six thousand years old.
Day 7: Alta to North Cape
Along the Porsangerfjord and through the North Cape Tunnel, the travellers will reach Honningsvåg in the northernmost part of mainland Norway. In the evening, they will visit the North Cape plateau, where they on good days will have a breath-taking view across the Arctic Sea under the Midnight Sun (May to August).
Day 8: North Cape to Rovaniemi
Today’s journey leads away from the North Cape Island and across the Finnmark Plateau, passing the impressive Inari Lake, back to Rovaniemi.
Day 9: Departure from Rovaniemi
Depending on departure time, the travellers have free time to explore the small town of Rovaniemi before a transfer takes them to Rovaniemi Airport for their homeward journey.
