From Viking history to grass-roofed houses and towering sea cliffs, this is a journey into a hidden gem of Northern Europe.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in the Faroe Islands
Arrival at Vágar Airport. A local guide and bus will meet the group and take you on a scenic tour of Vágar. Discover small romantic villages, traditional handicrafts and sweeping mountain views. On clear days, the island of Mykines can be seen in the distance. Cross a picturesque mountain pass and enjoy views of dramatic valleys, waterfalls and lakes before continuing to Tórshavn for check-in. Accommodation in Tórshavn.
Day 2: Tórshavn & Kirkjubøur
Breakfast at the hotel. Today includes a guided city tour of Tórshavn, one of the world’s smallest capitals. Explore Tinganes, the old town once settled by Vikings, with its turf-roofed houses and colourful harbour. In the afternoon, continue to Kirkjubøur, the Faroe Islands’ historical and ecclesiastical centre. Visit the ruins of the 13th-century Magnus Cathedral, the medieval Olav Church, and the 900-year-old Roykstovan farmhouse – still inhabited by the 17th generation of the same family. Accommodation in Tórshavn.
Day 3: Eysturoy Island
Breakfast at the hotel. Depart for Eysturoy, driving across Streymoy with stops for scenic viewpoints and photos. Cross the bridge to Eysturoy and visit the picturesque villages of Eiði and Gjógv. Admire Slættaratindur, the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands at 882 metres. In Gjógv, known for its natural harbour, enjoy views of the 188-metre sea stack Búgvin. Continue to Funningur and the village of Fuglafjørður, with a stop at the local arts and crafts centre. In the afternoon, visit Gøta before returning to Tórshavn. Accommodation in Tórshavn.
Day 4: Vestmanna Cliffs
After breakfast, embark on an unforgettable excursion to the towering bird cliffs of Vestmanna. Board a passenger boat for a 2-hour cruise beneath the sheer rock walls, passing sea caves and narrow sounds. In summer, puffins and guillemots can often be seen nesting here. After the cruise, enjoy an optional fresh fish soup or visit a small museum dedicated to local history (not included). Accommodation in Tórshavn.
Day 5: Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Free time to enjoy Tórshavn before departure from Vágar Airport, filled with memories of one of the North Atlantic’s most fascinating island groups.
