Experience Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, with its vast fjord system before continuing to the heart of Disko Bay, Ilulissat. Located by the famous Icefjord, Ilulissat offers breathtaking views of towering icebergs illuminated by the midnight sun. After exploring Ilulissat, the journey continues south of the Icefjord to Ilimanaq, one of Greenland’s oldest villages, for a stay at the charming Ilimanaq Lodge. This journey offers a close encounter with Greenland’s stunning natural wonders, seamlessly blending its unique culture and traditional way of life with modern influences.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Nuuk
Flight from Copenhagen to Nuuk, Greenland’s capital. Despite its small population of 19,500, Nuuk offers a vibrant city atmosphere with cultural, educational, and sporting opportunities. After check-in at Hotel Hans Egede Express, a welcome meeting provides an introduction to the city and excursion options. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore independently. An optional excursion package includes either a city tour of Nuuk or a scenic boat trip.

Day 2: Ilulissat
A flight to Ilulissat, named after the Greenlandic word for icebergs, leads to a stay at Hotel Arctic with stunning views of Disko Bay. After check-in, an information meeting introduces the town and available excursions. If the optional excursion package is booked, a guided cultural-historical city walk is included. The evening concludes with a welcome dinner at the hotel restaurant (drinks not included).

Day 3: Ilulissat
Ilulissat’s world-famous Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004, offers breathtaking views of massive ice formations. The day is at leisure, or those with the excursion package can join a guided hike to the former Sermermiut settlement at the Icefjord, followed by an evening iceberg cruise.

Day 4: Ilulissat
A final day to explore Ilulissat at a relaxed pace—shopping, visiting cafés, or simply enjoying the views. An optional boat trip to the calving Eqi Glacier (not included in the excursion package) departs in the morning, offering the chance to witness glacier activity from a safe distance, with lunch served onboard.

Day 5: Ilimanaq Lodge
After breakfast, a morning boat trip south of the Icefjord reaches Ilimanaq, where a stay at Ilimanaq Lodge offers two nights in scenic cabins. A short guided tour introduces this traditional Greenlandic settlement, home to about 50 inhabitants, where hunting and fishing remain central to daily life. The afternoon is free to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. In the evening, dinner is served in a restored colonial building.

Day 6: Ilimanaq Lodge
A day at leisure to explore Ilimanaq, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included (drinks excluded). Options include spending more time in the village or hiking in the surrounding area. An optional Glacier Adventure (not included) combines speedboating, off-road ATV driving, and glacier trekking.

Day 7: Ilulissat
Return to Ilulissat with opportunities for more water-based activities. The optional excursion package includes a whale-watching tour, while kayaking in the homeland of the kayak is also available (not included in the package).

Day 8: Departure
After a final view of the Icefjord, the journey home begins. Air Greenland flights return from Ilulissat via Nuuk to Copenhagen, arriving in the evening.

Local tip

A great souvenir from Greenland is a tupilak, a hand-carved figurine traditionally made from bone or reindeer antler, representing protective spirits in Inuit culture. You can also bring home Greenlandic musk ox wool (qiviut), one of the world's warmest and softest natural fibres, perfect for scarves, hats, or gloves.
